Most people in India pay one of two ways, and each one is losing money somewhere different. We are not trying to solve a single tidy problem, because there isn’t one.
If you pay by UPI
Most people don’t know the voucher trick exists.
Buying a gift card first, then paying with it, is often cheaper than paying the merchant directly. Almost nobody does it. Of the people who do, most check one voucher site and stop there, which is where the second bit of money goes.
Same voucher, ten sellers, ₹700 apart. Checking the first one and stopping costs you more than the discount you came for.
If you pay by card
Your card’s best route is rarely the obvious one.
The same spend can earn very different rewards depending on the route you take to it. Which portal, which merchant category, and whether you have already used up the cap that month. Banks publish the ceiling. What you get is usually the floor.
What decides it
- Merchant category. Some purchases earn nothing, whatever the card advertises.
- Monthly caps. A 5X rate stops at 5X only until the cap goes, often mid-month.
- Exclusions. A few cards reverse points after the fact rather than withholding them.
- Point value. The same point is worth several times more one way than another.

Denomination slabs decide whether a discount applies to your amount at all. A better percentage you cannot buy is not a better deal.

Card rewards depend on merchant categories, monthly caps and exclusion rules we cannot yet verify. We would rather compare one route honestly than four routes badly.
That we checked that seller and nothing was running. It is different from not having looked, and we keep the two apart deliberately.
Every result carries the date its data was built. Rates change without notice, so confirm the final price on the seller's page before you pay.
